GENERAL INFORMATION

Climate

Due to its topology, climate in Bandung is relatively cooler throughout the year than most of Indonesian cities. The average annual rainfall ranges from 1.000 milimetres in the middle and the southeast region to 3.500 milimetres in the north of city. The average temprateure is 22,6˚C, cooler than most Indonesian cities. Dry season is between March and August. Early September until January is lovely with little rain, blue skies, and pleasant temperatures.

-          The standard electric current is 220 V AC

-          Electricity plugs are round two prong type

-          Adapters are readily available at shops and hotels

-          Limited internet connection will be provided in various hotel

-          There are two kinds of mobile phone providers in Indonesia, GSM and CDMA. You are able to use mobile phones if there are facilities for international roaming from the original provider.

Money matters

-          Indonesia currency is the Rupiah (Rp)

-          Exchange rates are listed in the daily newspapers.

-          Bills are RP 1000; Rp 5000; Rp 10.000; Rp 20.000; Rp 50.000; and Rp 100.000

-          Coins are Rp 50; Rp 100; Rp 200; Rp 500; Rp 1000

-          Most traveler’s cheques can be exchange at banks

-          Credit cards are accepted in most large establishments and increasing numbers of smaller ones as well

-          There are many multi-lingual ATM machines

Opening hours

-          Shops generally 10.00 till 21.00

-          Department stores: 09.00 to 21.00

-          Museums: considerable variation but most close on Fridays

-          Banks: Monday-Friday 08.00 to 15.00

Public transportation

Bandung public transport is considered one of the most adventurous in the world with a variety of buses, angkot (jitney), becak (rickshaw), and ojeg (motorcycle taxis). Drivers are friendly and helpful.

Insurance

The committee will purchase accident insurance to cover all participants during their official periods. Meanwhile, the accident insurance during their trip to Indonesia and return to their countries will be the responsibilities of them self. All participants and accompanying person are advised to arrange their own travel and medical insurance.

TRAVEL FACTS

Before you go

-          A passport valid for at least 6 months

-          Visa are not required from some countries; visa can be obtain on arrival. Check government website for updates.

-          Vaccinates are not required unless you are coming from known infected areas

-          It is vital for visitors to have full health and travel insurance before travelling

When you go

-          December-January, mid  August- to the end of September are the best months to travel

-          End of September until January is the wet season, but it rarely rains all day long
